lesbiankiliel: garashirs: everyone in fantasy novels is horny on main for elves and it’s honestly a travesty like why the hell would you want to marry an elf you’ll just spend the rest of your days growing old in the woods with a bunch of immortal bastards whose heads are so far up their asses …
I have a question as someone who is studying mythology about the Fae with a hope of writing them into my own books. Your interpretation of them as malevolent has a lot of basis in mythology as is, but do you think it would be acceptable within the real world mythology to paint many Fae as protective or otherwise helpful? house spirits of various cultures are often shown as helpful if just as transactional so I was wondering if you think it could be just as true to myth to have helpful fair folk?
neil-gaiman: Of course! And I don’t think that my Fae Folk are always malevolent. (As the Piskie says in American Gods, they are like the wind; they blow both ways.) Katherine Briggs’ books, such as her Dictionary of Fairies, seem to be out of print these days, but are essential reading.
