Listen, I get that there are some issues with Andromeda. The first few hours of the game really feel like they’re trying to find their footing, which isn’t hard to understand – it must have been really hard and stressful to create a game that measures up to the trilogy.

But I’m really sick of the constant posts shitting all over the game and I’ve talked to lots of people who feel the same. It seems like a lot of people are worried about posting anything positive at all for fear or retribution.

So here, have a nice happy post about some of the AMAZING things about this game, which in my opinion totally holds up as a new addition to the series.

  • Awesome hair animation. I’m totally in love with how natural the hair looks. It moves around, looks great, and flows naturally.
  • The dialogue system. This is probably the first time in a video game that I actually feel like I can develop my own personality and have a truly unique OC. Plus, you can develop different relationships with different characters, which truly makes you feel invested in the world.
  • The side quests. There are some fetch quests, sure, but I’ve never found them to be boring. They’re always grounded in a story. I find the quests to be meaningful and interesting and engaging.
  • SQUAD MATES! This might be the first game where I absolutely adore every single person on your crew. The characters feel real and they all experience really touching character growth over the course of the game.
  • FRIEND DATES!! Maybe my favourite detail that’s been added to this – the nice outings you get with your squad after you earn their loyalty. Every single one was so touching and I treasure those moments.
  • ALIEN SEX okay so I’m obviously biased on that one…
  • Beautiful landscapes. I’ve come across some small landscape bugs, but in general each world feels unique and realistic. I love parking the Nomad on top of a hill and just admiring the scenery.
  • THE NOMAD BANTER! They absolutely nailed the banter in this game, I’ve teared up a few times while listening. I love it when squadmates can help each other with things that you can’t because they have different experiences than you. It feels realistic and wonderful.
  • Truly touching moments. I don’t want to say more for fear of spoiling anything, but I’ve cried so much at this game.
  • RYDER. Holy lord in heaven I love Ryder. They’re so well-written and totally hold their own against Shepard. They experience character development over the course of the game, the voice acting is fantastic, and basically I just really love Ryder holy shit

Please feel free to add your own, I really love this game and I’d love to see more people focusing on the things that make it so incredible.

Also if you see this and absolutely need to be negative, please keep it far away and make your own post. I understand that people have complaints, but I’m 150% done with hearing about them.

Much love to my fellow Andromeda explorers!

Squad mate interactions! It wasn’t until ME:3 that you could actually see your squad interact with each other out of banter, and even then it wasn’t that much. On the Tempest, you get to see them in the same room together, often enough talking with each other! And the crew message board is a great addition to it too!

Let me add some because I am sick of the negativity too.

  • Jetpack! The addition of the Jetpack is such a FUN mechanic. In exploring, I am no longer earth-bound. While in combat, new combinations are created together with known mechanics. (Example, zooming while in the air = hovering)
  • The nomad. Zooming across the huge spaces and pulling off car stunts brought me such simple joy. It has been compared to the Skyrim’s horse and the horse has nothing on it. (Ain’t no mountains standing in my way.) Also, unlike Inquisition’s travel method, you don’t lose out on any banter when travelling in it! (Referring to the point above.)
  • Head shots. The head shots/shots to weak spots takes off a huge chunk of health/armor/shield. It makes playing a sniper very rewarding. Also works with other kinds of guns!
  • Melee. The expansion of different melee weapons encourages experimentation and rapidly changes the way a melee attack can be thrown into the attack rotation. (I personally love the Asari Sword because hell yea, short teleportation? Sign me up!)
  • Exploration. Because I love that we get a new universe to explore, to learn and to discover. Every NPC that you meet clearly has a story to tell and just the idea of exploring the unknown had thrilled me to no end.

The expanded lore for all species!

The personal stories of leaving a life behind in the Milky Way!

Truly interesting massive population of villain species. I could write five hundred flabillion books about my kett thoughts and theories!

THE ANGARA 💜💜💜

The Remnant and their Vaults! (Holy shit the coolest environments ever)

The cuteness, the funny, the precious and good good good feelings!

THE ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE FUEL AND DARKNESS

The Nexus!

TIRAN KANDROS 💙💙💙

The pets!!!! The dialogue whenever you pet the pyjak!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERYONE’S COMMENTS ON THE PYJAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The playful little nods to previous installments, not just within the Mass Effect franchise but Dragon Age as well! I had so much fun discovering them!

Each area is unique, filled with its unique problems, all of which culminate in some awesome sidequests that are genuinely fun and interesting!

The boss battles with the Architects. Think about your first encounter with the Fereldan Frostback in Inquisition. Now multiply it by five. Scream a lot.

The insane mobility you get in combat! With the jump jet, the diverse melee- and gun options, and the intricately built areas, even the small skirmishes can feel super intense instead of tedious. I LOVED zooming over enemies’ heads, switching to the shotgun mid-air, and blasting them in the back.

On the same note, the GUNS. They just control so great. I was never much for sniping in any other game before, but in this one, the sniper rifles are so stable and responsive, so tightly programmed, that blasting a kett in the head is just so morbidly satisfying. (As is hearing your companions yell “Nice shot!” or “Right between the eyes!” when you hit a weak point!)

The voice acting! Sure, some minor NPCs are a little shaky, but the voice acting for the main characters is On Point. When Vetra slips into that deep, flirty tone or whenever Liam laughs, my bisexual ass just melts into a tiny puddle under my chair.

Unique NPC relationships! Gil and Kallo’s conflict, Liam and Jaal’s Intense Broship, Lexi worrying over the entire squad and especially Drack, Gil trashing everyone at poker, it’s all so great. This game does amazing things with levity, despite the dark subject matter.

on the same note, the shit Ryder says. Like at one point my girl genuinely said “I will fuck your shit up” and even I was like “whoa. badass.”

Family moments. You really get to build your own relationship with your father and sibling. (And what’s even better, you get to keep track of the relationships and the decisions you make in the codex! Super handy idea!)

That sense of exploration. During the promotion they kept saying that they want that feeling of exploring an unknown world, and they absolutely delivered. You never really know what you find behind the next hill.

Everyone has mentioned the Nomad so far, but have they mentioned the Nomad paint jobs????? some of the Nomad skins are insanely pretty, and some are made to suit specific environments. I loooove the Nebula one, and while Platinum and Midas Touch can look a little messed up on the loadout screen, once dropped into the world, they’re incredible. So shiny. screw stealth, if u gotta go to town might as well go in a lincoln amirite

guys this game is just so fun

I love everything mentioned, but especially Ryder. I love how Ryder interacts with the people around them, how their decisions shape them as a person, how they’re so young and easily changeable and this shows over the game as they grow up and become the person they’re capable of being.

I love that we don’t get a seasoned veteran who already has a name behind them – we get someone who is trying to be someone. We get someone who is trying to make a difference in the world. We get someone funny and silly, and sometimes who makes stupid mistakes, but they also learn from them.

I love that character growth.

I love all these additions!!

Ryder is such a wonderful, awkward, bumbling, totally in over their head character and it is freaking wonderful.
